A Cueing Course

Cues to refine, rethink or retire.

Cueing in yoga that is clear, concise and compelling is a distinguishing characteristic of a good yoga teacher.  Yet a lot of cues in yoga are outdated, some contradict healthy and safe movement of the body and some can even be harmful.

In The Cueing Course, we will look at some of the cues that we can look at refining, recreating or retiring.  Cueing in yoga is a skill that requires practice and fine tuning.

This course series is for teachers who want to expand beyond their current cueing.  Who want to see beyond the idea of "correct alignment" to be able to truly teach effective and safe movement to all people.  This is for you if you feel like you have been handed down alignment cues and random pose "benefits", but you feel like you are just repeating cues, or don't fully understand the why behind them.

You will leave this course understanding an evidence based approach to cueing and gaining a fresh perspective on teaching.  You will feel more confident and recharged in your ability to create cues that impact your classes.

Course 1:  "Silly things yoga teachers say..."

Tuesday, October 11, 2022 from 4pm-5pm est

Course 1 is lighthearted look into the silly things yoga teachers say...that actually don't make sense.  All are good intentioned, but have you ever said a cue that you know just didn't make sense?  And if you know it didn't make sense, imagine being your student and trying to DO the thing you just said.

Course 2:  Exclusionary Cues

Saturday, October 15, 2022 from 12:00pm-1:00pm est

Course 2 breaks down cues that may exclude people.  The yoga industry tells people all the time that yoga is for everyone and all you need is an open mind to do it.  However, there are a lot of cues that leave people feeling left out, that contradict our best intentions of "yoga is for everyone".   This course looks to refine, recreate and recycle cues in order to have all students feel like you are talking to them, to create an inclusive class that its accessible for every body.

Course 3:  Cues that create safety

 Tuesday, October 18, 2022 from 4pm-5pm est

One of the things I hear the most from yoga teachers is that they are concerned with keeping their students safe from getting hurt.  The problem with some of the cues that have been passed down and are not based in movement science are they do in fact put students at risk of pain or harm.  We will look at cues that can cause physical harm and some cues that can be detrimental in speaking to yoga as a practice that helps stress management or one's mental health.

You may drop in to single courses or invest in the 3 course series.

This will be a simple, light-hearted, evidence-based approach to cueing.  We will go beyond telling you what to say to supporting you in learning why you are saying things and how to cue in a fresh and fun way.

This course series will be live via Zoom or recorded for you to work through on your own time.
